The Sedona Principles
"Electronic discovery refers to the discovery of electronic documents and data. Electronic documents include e-mail, web pages, word processing files, computer databases, and virtually anything that is stored on a computer".

Digital Evidence
...according to the Forensic Resource Network, a project of the National Institute of Justice, is “any information of probative value that is either stored or transmitted in a binary form. This field includes not only computers in the traditional sense but also digital audio and video. It includes all facets of crime where evidence may be found in a digital, or binary, form.” Information stored in binary form is information stored as a series of ones and zeros.

Home of "Deadliest Catch" Selects the Digital Evidence Locker

April 2008
The Unalaska Police have chosen the Justice Data Group to implement the agency's digital evidence solution.  Host port (Dutch Harbor) to the Alaska King Crab fishing fleet featured on the Discovery Channel's Deadliest Catch series, the police division is the primary law enforcement entity for the community of Unalaska.

Officers respond to  and investigate a wide variety of cases. Since the community is remote, officers must be able to follow through on investigations from initial complaint to prosecution. Cases not only occur within city limits, but also on state and federal lands or waters, and the division is regularly requested to investigate on behalf of other agencies whose personnel are located far away. The department prides itself in the depth of expertise that its officers have, and encourages and promotes a wide variety of skills and advanced education. Many in the division are certified police instructors.  The Justice Data Group is proud to provide support to their mission.
